Leeds band Engligh Teacher have released their blazing hot single ‘R&B’ via Nice Swan Records. Without any long, drawn-out hoopla, the track is an absolute stellar handing of post-punk goodness, brilliantly touching on the topic of indentity through the metaphorical playing of not being able to sing R&B. The thundering instrumenation topped with the cutting vocals of Lily Fontaine is sheer magic. English Teacher is a band that absolutely needs to be on the forefront of your radar. Check it out.
In a press statement touching on the single, English Teacher wrote:
“‘R&B’ is about the cyclical, productivity-diminishing paradox of low self-esteem and imposter syndrome-induced writer’s block that then fuels low self-esteem and imposter syndrome. It’s also about racial identity and putting the love that you have to offer a potential romantic partner back into yourself.”
