Over the past few years Australian duo Private Life have released some pretty catchy records including the 'Otherside' EP. Now the Melbourne indie pop group have brought forth their latest single 'Dragon'. Huskier and broader in sound, the tune should set the band off nicely in 2016 as it is, in our opinion, their most accessible and intriguingly infectious track yet. You can listen to 'Dragon' at the bottom.
Australian duo Water Park are the next wave of newcomers who are proving that they …
With Tricky's Skilled Mechanics project landing January 22nd via False Idols / !K7, the Bristol-born artist has shared a new track taken from the LP entitled 'Boy'. Delving into more autobiographical stories regarding his upbringing in Knowle West, the song finds Tricky rapping over minimal, synth-driven production. Tricky lays a lot of personal information on the table in this recording, which can be considered his most blatantly open within the timeline of his career.
New Zealand pop star Kimbra blurs the lines between remix and cover with her remake of Mew's 'Making Friends'. Quite sublime, Kimbra not only fronts the vocal bits of this version, but also skillfully executes the mellow and ethereal production backing. Long story short, it's quite good! The original version of 'Making Friends' is taken from Mew's latest album '+ -'. Have a listen.

Dave Jones aka Zed Bias has uploaded his rework of the classic Isaac Hayes song 'Walk On By', originally featured on the 1969 album 'Hot Buttered Soul'. The 160 BPM experimental remix was a sort of New Year's gift from Zed Bias. However, it appears as if it is no longer available as a free download. At least you can still stream the track which is better than nothing. If you're lucky, he will allow downloads of the tune in the near future. For now, you can listen to the Zed Bias version below.
While everyone is busy putting together a 'Best of 2015' list, we're excited about the albums that are forthcoming in 2016. One LP that we have been eagerly waiting on is 'MartyrLoserKing' by artist, poet and author Saul Williams. New York-based Williams recently shared a new song taken from the album entitled 'The Noise Came From Here'. Sampling the singing of an African tribe, heavy synths and thundering drums push from beneath creating a sense of urgency. Like the work of Williams' past, 'The Noise Came From Here' challenges any normality pertaining to the current music, keeping a strategic focus on something with a little more impact. 'MartyrLoserKing' is out January 29, 2016 via the Fader label. Check it out.
If nothing else, Ratatat wins the best song title of the year for their track 'Pricks Of Brightness'. Although the song itself is quite mellow and soothing, the Luis Cerveró-directed video is slightly weirder. There are random clips of a guy spray painting "prick" on trucks and vans, people holding up paintings and even a woman holding a telephone receiver to a dog's ear. You can come to your own interpretation regarding who would be considered a "prick".
