Argentina-born, Hertfordshire-raised singer Malena Zavala is gearing up for the release of her new album La Yarará. The LP lands April 17 via Yucatan Records. Coinciding with the news, Zavala has also shared the title track. Musically drawing from inspiration from the sound of reggaeton and transforming it into her own style, the mid-tempo tune plays with a deep, rumbling bass line, echoing claps and multi-vocal layering. The track is the follow-up to her previous single ‘I’m Leaving Home’, which will also be featured on the forthcoming album.

Regarding ‘La Yarará’, Malena Zavala stated:

“The yarará is a venomous snake, a viper, in Argentina. It’s also used as a diss to a sassy woman, and my parents always called me that, so I’ve named the album that as a kind of in-joke.

With the whole album I was researching every single Latino rhythm and style. With ‘La Yarará’ I started on reggaeton, but wanted to make it in my own way. I also wanted to make a song that’s really angry. And when I do that live, it is a challenge, because I normally sing very sweetly. But I’m trying to summon that yarará.”
