One hand it feels like yesterday that the sound of UK Funky was blaring throughout the streets of England, yet on the other hand it feels like ages ago. One of the producers who was able to not only thrive in that scene but push forward into other styles and genres is Lil Silva. The Bedford producer not only created some of the hottest sounds in UK Funky, but went on to produce for the likes of Adele, Banks, and more.
Lil Silva now returns with a new single titled ‘Backwards’, which features the vocals of Sampha. Absolutely beautiful, the track finds Silva blending finely crafted soul with more of a tribal house feel. Of course Sampha doesn’t disappoint on the vocal delivery. Silva and Sampha continue to make the perfect musical pairing, having previously worked together in the past.
Regarding ‘Backwards’, Lil Silva said:
“‘Backwards’ is the feeling of alienation and constantly venting in a matrix you find yourself inside, whatever that may be… Restricted and feeling guilty to move forward, constantly going backwards mentally… I guess the song is about being in a never ending cycle and the heaviness that can bring on you…It’s a metaphor for that.”
