Originally hailing from Portland but now based in Los Angeles, Blackwater Holylight have been paving their lane in the world of rock and psych for years now. Releasing their last album Silence/Motion back in 2021, the band have announced their new forthcoming LP titled Not Here Not Gone. Out January 30th on Suicide Squeeze, Blackwater Holylight have also unveiled the lead-off single dubbed ‘Heavy, Why?’.
Staying true to their hard rock sound laced with doom, and psychedelic ‘Heavy, Why?’ is a fuzz-furious, rumbling cut that is moody, atmospheric, and definitely beefy.
Along with the single Blackwater Holylight have also shared an accompanying music video directed by Lorenzo Cisi, which you can watch below.
Touching on the new single, Blackwater Holylight’s Sunny Faris mentioned:
“‘Heavy, Why?’ Is a lyrically light and instrumentally heavy arrangement that cryptically but intentionally speaks to the experience of being disembodied and poses the question, simply, of: ‘Why? Why is it such a hard, lonely, agonizing and heavy experience to be turned away from Self.”
