Imagine being locked inside a machine while mangled by wires, digital signal processors, supply circuits and nothing more than an imagination of what would become of this experience. This is what it feels like when listening to the album “93 Million Miles” by UK electronic masterminds Steve Spacek and Mark Pritchard. Straddling between Detroit techno, twisted dubstep, early Chicago house, broken beat, future jazz and pratically every aspect of electronic music, this album is highly unpredictable which is also part of the beauty. “Do U Wanna Fight” is reminiscent of on old school grime track with it’s Wiley-ish bubbling bassline, horn stab and filtered out rudeboy influenced vocals. “Out In The Streets”, which has been the new raving anthem for months, is a hyper intensive, video game sounding tune laced with the ever so popular Ini Kamoze sample from “World A Reggae”. Tracks such as the glitchy “Glangslap” continues to pound you with a level intensity as the next stage of the album takes you to an almost state of meditation with songs such as “Light The Way”, a sophisticated jazzed up, uptempo broken beat bit that makes one remember why they loved that original Spacek sound from the start. “93 Million Miles” is a great journey into the unorthodox sound of electronic music and while there are numerous producers now trying to tap into the world of experimentation, Africa Hitech hits the hammer on the nail with this release.
