Broken and Uneven’s Hydra series joins forces with seasoned promotion outfit, Bugged Out, to curate an evening with London-based Night Slugs as they celebrate the release of their Night Slugs Allstars Volume 2 compilation.

As true purveyors of global bass movements, the label manage to evade genre classification yet their discography is unified by groove-laden beat patterns and colourful melodies. What started as a club night in South London – born out of a frantic obsession with energetic beats and bass regardless of BPM – has manifested into a pivotal platform that has been a catalyst in elevating acts such as Mosca, Lil’ Silva, Egyptrixx and Kingdom to greater notoriety since the label’s beginnings in 2010.

Bok Bok, one half of the founding members of Night Slugs, is a producer and DJ renowned for his risk-taking behind the decks – mixing a rare Grime white label from the early 00’s into Chicago Footwork or Detroit Techno is standard fare in his sets. His productions mirror this approach as his releases have seen him deliver everything from 2012’s standout ode to Grime, Silo Pass, to his collaboration with Rush Hour’s Tom Trago on the House-leaning Night Voyage EP. Listening the depth of his selection on the Night Slugs Rinse FM show you’re guaranteed to hear the latest progressions from a plethora of scenes mixed with forgotten classics for a well-rounded snapshot of the label’s sound and influences.

Label co-owner, L-Vis 1990 has flirted with a myriad of styles since his landmark United Groove on Mad Decent in 2009. Since then the Brighton-born producer has gone on to release a distinctive catalogue of dancefloor-inclined EP’s including the first edition of the label’s Club Constructions series, which focuses on tracks that are designed to inject a dose of energy into any DJ set. He recently embarked on a side-project on PMR at the tail end of 2011 that culminated in the pop-tinged Neon Dreams album, a release that showcased an alternative side to his musical creativity.

After this year’s release of his debut album Classical Curves, Jam City has continued his experimentalism with 80’s Funk and Electro sounds as the skeleton of his work. The somewhat mysterious producer has built up a repertoire of instantly recognizable tracks that are often hard to pin down but always sonically intriguing with references ranging from the swinging rhythms of Kwaito on 2011’S Aqua Box to the more recent Detroit-influenced How We Relate To The Body.

With a sound rooted in southern Hip-Hop, Girl Unit’s focus on exquisite 808 drum programming and infectious melodies have seen him gain admirers as famed as Dirtybird’s Claude Von Stroke, after he took it upon himself to remix his biggest track to date, the ubiquitous Wut. Since then he has remixed for the likes of Katy B and honed his sound, returning to the label this year with Club Rez EP which explored slightly more retro territory.

The label gains inspiration from acts from different scenes and parts of the world and for this party they’re joined by one of their long-standing heroes, Soundstream. The Panoramabar affiliate has dazzled his faithful following with a selective discography of must-have Disco edits over the years like All Night and Live Goes On. In an over-saturated Disco edits market his work stands out due to its authenticity and ability to move the dancefloor into fit of ecstasy with little more than a highly addictive loop and his live set promises to do just that.
