Long Beach artist Lionel Boy has been keeping busy over the past few months prepping not one, but two EPs set to land. The first titled Up at 4 will drop April 29th, with the second EP dubbed Down at 8, slated to get released on June 17th. Both records are forthcoming on the Innovative Leisure label.

To coincide with the news Lionel Boy has also shared his latest single ‘SHADOWBOXING’. Breezy and melodic, the song is sprinkled with laid-back guitar lines sitting comfortably on top of thumping drums. The air of minimalism provides a spacious opening for the instrumentation to breath as well allow the nesting of Lionel Boy’s vocals. A lovely taste of indie-pop, you can stream ‘SHADOWBOXING’ below.

Touching on the track, Lionel Boy mentioned:

“I’ve been trying to write a song like ‘SHADOWBOXING’ for a long time. Something that would feel both nostalgic to me and new at the same time. When I first started playing music it was always the guitar riffs that grabbed my attention and I think the same happened with SHADOWBOXING. Growing up in Hawaii, you automatically take things slower. No rush, no worries…until you piss someone off, then they’ll go 0 to 100. We’re both quick to relax and quick to rush in. This song isn’t about one thing in particular, but some observations I’ve made in myself and in those back home. I know a lot of us are just dealing with our own things, fighting our own demons…shadowboxing.”
