Helsinki singer Anni Mattila, or simply known as Anni, dubs her sound ‘nordic noir’. Whilst that could imply slightly dark overtones, her tracks are like the breaking of dawn, right before the rising of the sun, a gentle brisk before the possible warmth of the sun’s rays. Bringing forth her ‘Redemption Street’ EP last year, Anni blended everything from soul to atmospheric electronica that was a sheer delight. Making her return with another impressive offering is Anni’s latest track ‘Break Free’. Led by broken beat-style drums and breezy synths, the track finds Anni adding a bit of Scandi pop to the sky-sailing electronic working.
