Corinne Bailey Rae has shared her new single ‘New York Transit Queen’. The track is taken from her forthcoming new album Black Rainbows, which is a celebration of the global Black female experience, futurism, femininity, and more. The new LP is out September 15th.
‘New York Transit Queen’ finds the British singer delving into the sounds of punk and noise rock whilst also paying homage to Thelma Potter, the first African American to win the 1947 Miss Subways competition in New York City. Musically the track is fast, furious, and bold, contrasting some of Corrine Bailey Rae’s previous folk, soul, and pop work. We’re definitely on board for this interesting ride. Have a listen.
