Los Angeles band Death Valley Girls will release their forthcoming EP 'Breakthrough' on June 12th via Suicide Squeeze Records. The group have also shared the title track to the new record. Inspired by Damien Echols of the West Memphis 3, the song is a stampeding mix of metal, psychedelic and garage rock that is packed with anthemic vocals and raw, effective instrumentation.
Aside from having one of the top EPs of 2019 with 'Town Centre', in 2020 Brighton band Squid released their grooving single 'Sludge'. Refusing to slow down the momentum, they now bring forth their latest track titled 'Broadcaster'. Once again proving that musically they are one of the most diverse bands out today, Squid delve into the realms of psychedelic and synthwave, as a sequenced synth line lay atop spacey layers. There is also an element of drone incorporated into the production which flows without drums. Another killer offering, the track is taken from their 'Sludge/Broadcaster' pack, which will also land on vinyl via Warp Records on June 26th.
South London band Gaygirl have shared their new track 'Killing It'. The song is taken from their forthcoming EP 'Pleasurehead', landing May 22nd on Permanent Creeps. Tapping into the 90s sound of grunge with a modern alternative layering, the track contains change-ups shifting from mellow and haunting to all-out riotous.
Warrington band Filthy Tricks step forth with their dynamic single 'Leah'. Produced by Dave Radahd-Jones in Manchester, the song is set-off by lashing guitar riffs and thundering drums before morphing into an explosive rock & roll record that is power-hitting in sound. Big stadium vocals and towering instrumentation makes 'Leah' a certified winner of a track.
One of the albums that we are anticipating this year is Jehnny Beth's 'To Love Is To Live', which is out June 12th. Having already dropped the singles 'I'm the Man' and 'Flower', she now reveals her new track 'Heroine'. Explosive in sound, the production jumps from the speakers as a thundering bass line blends with whirling keys, not to mention horns even factored in towards the end of the cut. Produced by Produced by Flood and Adam Bartlett, 'Heroine' was co-written by Johnny Hostile and The xx's Romy Madley Croft. Jehnny Beth has been on a perfect winning streak in lead-up to the new record.
We're not sure what's in the water in Cardiff these days but currently the city is a hotbed of musical talent. One band who definitely has something special is Clwb Fuzz, whose latest single 'No Heaven' is absolutely magical. Built on a seducing guitar riff, funky drumming and a sexy, driving bass line all topped off with the lush vocals of singer Emily Kocan, 'No Heaven' is nothing short of incredible. Amsterdam-based band Rex have stepped up with their new song 'Palaces', a haunting alternative cut infused with post-punk undertones. Launching the track with an eerie bass line, remaining minimal until a little after the one minute mark before the drums kick in, the stern vocals of front man Jonathan Rex add to the commanding feel.
Already championed by the likes of Louise Brierly and Jack Parker of BBC Music Introducing in the West Midlands, Birmingham-based trio Lycio have shared a stream of their new single 'Nightfall', which is out April 3rd via their Lycio Records imprint. A mountainous pop offering, soulful keys along with thundering drums and echoing snares are the foundation for singer Genie Mendez's lifting vocals to soar. Atmospheric and moody, the tune is the follow-up to their 2019 song 'Cash'.
Canadian band Fake Shape made their debut a month ago with the track 'Headspace'. The group have now unveiled a new single entitled 'It's Easy'. A complete wonderland of musical goodness, Fake Shape deliver a collage of psychedelic, spaced-out indie, funk and drifting pop. With lush guitar riffs gliding over twinkling synths, jazzy drumming, 'It's Easy' is an overly brilliant track rich with blossoming textures and depths.
Leeds band The Golden Age of TV have released their self-titled debut EP. The 4-track record is a graceful sliding of art-rock, pop and indie. Led by witty vocalist Bea Fletcher, whose flashes of pure charm is complimented by slick production, the EP is a lush, breezy and remarkable presentation from the promising outfit.
