Back in 2023 Andre 3000 released his debut solo album New Blue Sun, which caused a divide amongst long time fans. Those who had been desperately craving verses from the OutKast member were in an uproar to discover that it was, as many dubbed, a ‘flute album’. In interviews that shortly followed after the LP landed, Andre stated that he didn’t feel he had anything to write about rap wise, and this is where his spirit was at that moment. Ironically New Blue Sun ended up garnishing three Grammy nominations including Album Of The Year.

Fast forward to the night of the infamous 2025 Met Gala which happened on May 5th, Andre released a new EP titled 7 Piano Sketches. The album cover is an illustration that reflects the same outfit in which he wore to the gala (a Burberry crafted piano strapped to a flight suit-style piece). According to Andre 3000, the LP was recorded a decade before New Blue Sun, and was originally titled The Best Worst Rap Album in History. In an instagram post he also explained that the EP was recorded in a sparse Texas home that he rented which had no furniture, only beds, TV screens and a piano. 3 Stacks also mentioned that most of the tracks except for one were recorded with an iPhone or a the mic on his laptop placed on top of the piano.
