Jessica Weiss, known as a member of the dreampop band Fear of Men, steps forward with a new solo project under the name New German Cinema. She is scheduled to release her forthcoming album Pain Will Polish Me on March 27th via the Felte imprint. The first single taken from the record is her latest track ‘My Mistake’, which features Carson Cox. Along with the song, Jessica Weiss has also shared an accompanying video.

Directed by Luke Bather, the video finds Weiss in an intimate setting, which could be a hotel, as candles are lit throughout a room, with a television displaying a video of Carson Cox. There is air of mystery to the visuals which aligns with the feel of the moody track.

Regarding the video, Jessica Weiss said:

“The video sets the emotional tone for the record, suspended between eroticism and nightmare. It draws on cropped mirror framing – a favourite device of Douglas Sirk used to explore themes of emotional and physical entrapment and characters’ inner psychological conflicts – moments of dissociation, and the television as a symbol of alienation, inspired by my perennial inspiration, RW Fassbinder.”
