With fans anticipating Kendrick Lamar’s forthcoming album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, which will also be his final LP on TDE, the Compton-raised emcee continues his ‘The Heart’ series with a fifth instalment. K.Dot has also dropped a video to aid the song.
Directed by Dave Free and Kendrick Lamar, ‘The Heart Part 5’ uses deepfake technology to transform Kendrick into figures including OJ Simpson, Kanye West, Will Smith, Jussie Smollett, Kobe Bryant, and even the late Nipsey Hussle. There is a significance to each person based on the lyrics of the song. The music itself samples Marvin Gaye’s classic ‘I Want You’, taken from his 1976 LP of the same name. The song’s content is a potent piece of social commentary, with the final verses featuring Kendrick rapping from the perspective of Nipsey. The video is produced by pgLang, the creative company owned by Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free.
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is out May 13th on TDE Records.
