Already proving to be a dynamic band with their previous singles ‘Benny’ and ‘Took It All Away’, London outfit Khartoum have released their debut EP Vultures. Comprised of four tracks, the record shines a spotlight on our modern presence online and questions the repercussions of that existence.
Khartoum have also unveiled their latest single ‘Internet Lover’. Plucky guitar lines help to bring a funk element to the upbeat indie tune, bridging 70s rock and new wave with the indie genre of the present. Laced with infectious melodies and an absolute killer groove, ‘Internet Lover’ is one of those tunes that will definitely be on repeat.
In regards to ‘Internet Lover’, Khartoum mentioned:
“‘Internet Lover’ addresses the challenges of navigating relationships online. It celebrates the immediacy of human connection that is achieved via the internet while warning of the potential for isolation, loss of perspective and the loneliness that is concealed within the use of social media. Whether it’s Bumble, Tinder, Instagram or WhatsApp, it’s bittersweet territory.
‘Internet Lover’ was our first song that was written “in the box”, starting out as a loop of the guitar riff heard at the beginning of the song. We wanted to have guitars that sounded like they were being played by a computer… very jagged, angular and robotic.”
Touching on the EP, the band stated:
“The EP is all about humanities; the intimate but uneasy relationship with the internet. We are all connected but at what price? The endeavour of Looking for love online with the Vultures that can surround you is a new frontier with hidden risks and camouflaged caveats that need to be negotiated before romance is often realised.”
