This October Punch Touring and Vagabondz collaborate to bring together a genre-defining lineup for the fifth tour in the Roots Tours series. Sound History lays down the best of garage, deep house and bass sounds with a gritty lineup that spans heritage acts still blazing a trail as well as groundbreaking acts who are evolving the sound.

Sound History presents six modern masters of house and garage on tour together, with veteran Chicago house legend Roy Davis Jr, award-winning soul singer Shola Ama, iconic 2-step beatmaster Sticky, scene-stealing Eliphino, dubstep pioneer Oscar Luweez and in-demand producer Moony. A six-date, six-artist national tour through the world of deep house and garage.

From October 15 Sound History rolls out a six-date 2-step caravan across the country in collaboration with some of the UK’s most
prolific promoters and standout venues., taking in Nottingham on October 15 alongside Detour at Dogma, Bristol on October 16 with Mad Luv at a secret location, Leeds on October 17, October 18 in London and Brighton on October 19 with Vagabondz at The Faversham, Fire and Concorde 2 respectively, and Manchester on October 22 with LVLZ at Antwerp Mansion.

A Chicago house pioneer and one of the scene’s most inspirational figures, Roy Davis Jr can be found regularly playing in the US, but his appearance on the Sound History tour brings the Chicago house music pioneer as a treat for UK fans. Roy Davis Jr’s 1998 track ‘Gabriel’ is a soulful house anthem that sounds as fresh now as the day it was released, credited by many with kickstarting the UK
garage scene, it’s a stalwart in any respectable record bag. Roy Davis Jr has been at the forefront of the scene for over 20 years making him the ideal headliner for the Sound History tour.

With a two-track release coming up on Hypercolour and a long list of remixes in the pipeline, things are stepping up for young London producer Eliphino. He’s been signed to Giles Peterson’s ‘Brownswood Electric’ compilation, recently released the ‘Undivided Whole’ EP on the somethinksounds label, as well as a track on Manchester-based Hoya:Hoya alongside Lone and Ras G. His recent appearance at Dimensions Festival saw him dropping bombs across the spectrum including hip hop, garage, house, R&B, dancehall and jungle.

Soul singer Shola Ama is a key member of the UK garage all-stars, often billed next to the likes of DJ Luck and MC Neat, Zed Bias and Roots Manuva, as well as more recently Toddla T – and now she joins the Sound History tour. Part of Wiley’s A-List – formed in 2010 – Shola Ama’s sound evolved following the boom of UKG, and she became a firm favourite within the emerging grime scene, closely involved with grime MCs J2K, Brazen, Roll Deep, Wringley and Kivanc. With three albums, two MOBO awards and a Brit award under her belt, Shola Ama’s light still shines bright, a true evolutionary vocalist whose future looks just as bright.

Sticky was one of the biggest producers of the UK garage scene, producing banger after banger featuring the likes of Ms Dynamite – the pair’s collaboration ‘Booo!’ is one of the most classic tunes of the era – as well as Kele Le Roc, Stush, Tubby T and Twista. His remix projects included tracks from Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Hot Chip and Erykah Badu, and he’s a Carnival favourite. Now at home at big Dada Recordings, Sticky’s recent collaboration with Scott Garcia saw him deliver an almighty Mixmag DJ Lab. Expect shuffling drums, crushing basslines and dramatic synth riffs.

Oscar Luweez comes to Sound History with a wealth of history, and a long list of fans. A UK underground dubstep pioneer – under the moniker D1 – he’s no stranger to the scene, and his evolving sound has received plaudits across the industry; his newest house-inspired EP ‘The Hustler’ – released on his own Luweez Beats label – has already been heavily supported by the likes of Skream, Roska, B.Traits and Rattus Rattus. He’s the man behind a number of seminal releases from dubstep’s forward-thinking formative years on revered labels such as Tempa, Dub Police and Hessle Audio.

Brighton-based DJ and producer Moony has been causing a stir with his garage, grime and bass infused selections and an unwavering dedication to the dancefloor. Currently working on an album, he’s also remixed for the likes of MIK, Trilla, Shystie and Bountry Killa, and his tracks have received support from EZ, Elijah & Skilliam, Spooky, Marcus Nasty and many more. His regular radio appearances for Rinse FM and BBC 1Xtra have furthered his reach, and he promises a rip-roaring set at Sound History.

Having curated and produced four successful concept-based tours – dub to dubstep, Dub to Jungle, Jamaica Party and The Twinkle Brothers meet Channel One – Roots Tours introduces another expert selection with Sound History that nods to the real talent of roots music, this time with that big, bassy house and garage twist.

The sounds of house and garage have inspired musicians, artists and DJs for decades, influencing the development of 2-step, speed garage, grime and much more. Sound History offers audiences an opportunity to see some of the US and UK’s greatest artists performing dancefloor classics live on stage.
