Tim Westwood Leaves BBC Radio 1xtra After 20 Years

After interviewing, as well as spinning the sounds of the biggest names in Hip-Hop and grime, Tim Westwood is leaving BBC Radio 1xtra after 20 years of being with the station. This comes as a part of the new BBC Radio 1xtra schedule change which will now feature MistaJam at the 7pm slot, Charlie Sloth at 9pm and DJ Target at 11pm, effective 21st September 2013.

Controller Ben Cooper of Radio 1 and Radio 1xtra stated “I’d like to thank Tim for the last 20 years on Radio 1 – his passion for hip-hop is legendary. I wish him all the very best.”

In the 1980s Tim Westwood was a DJ on Kiss FM, London Weekend Radio (LWR) and Capitol FM. In 1994 Westwood was presenter for the Radio 1 Rap Show, making him the first run a dedicated a Hip-Hop show on the station. His Westwood show ran simultaneously on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1xtra.

Apart from establishing popularity on radio, Tim Westwood is also an accomplished television presenter. He is the host for the UK version of Pimp My Ride on MTV2. The show first aired back in 2004.

Known as the ‘Big Dawg’, Tim Westwood is infamous for his ‘bomb drops’ and comedic approach to radio hosting.
