Holiday albums are generally just an overall bad idea. They are usually quite cheesy and fall to the way side at the bottom of the record bins collecting dust like a desert wind storm. However, after hearing The Olympic Cyclone Band’s “Seasons Greetings”, a soft spot has begun to take place in my heart. This is not just the typical, run of the mill Christmas record, but a gritty, funky, all out soulful and enjoyable piece of work. It was honestly so amazing that this will probably be one of those sample filled funk records that becomes a collector’s item based on the pressing amount. The breaks in the songs are killer, the vocals are incredible, many of the tracks are deejay friendly and the name of the band alone is enough to make you buy it. With a sound this funky The Olympic Cyclone Band’s music makes you wish it was Christmas everyday! “Seasons Greetings” is out now on Jalapeno Records.
