Oxford band Low Island have released their new EP 'Shut Out The Sun'. With the title drawing inspiration from Michael Zielenziger’s 2006 book ‘Shutting Out the Sun’, the record is comprised of four tracks with the group fusing new wave, electronica, indie pop and more.
At the beginning of the year rising artist Stoner shared his blissful track 'The Anteroom'. Making his return, he now steps forth with his latest single 'Lacrimosa'. A moody yet utterly gorgeous ballad, the song is built on melancholic keys and hollow drum kicks, eventually opening up to lush guitar riffs. There are also traces of the 80s new romantic period sewn in the blueprint of the tune. Top off the production with Stoner's falsetto vocals and the result is one amazing recording.
Having released a slew of music bubbling with seductive new wave, post-punk and more, including their excellent '8' EP, London's Giant Party make their return with their latest track entitled 'I Know You're Gonna Let Her Down'. An epitome of sexiness, the band incorporate enticing guitar riffs and shimmering synths, teetering between bar rock and Prince-esque funk.

Los Angeles artist Ariel Beesley grapples with stepping away from a less than perfect relationship in her track 'Palm Springs'. A sparkling offering of indie and electro, with etchings of post-punk and new wave, Beesley delivers a charming performance as the upbeat production moves with a thumping bass line, fuzzy synths and zipping guitar lines. A dazzling cut, the song follows her self-titled EP, released back in 2018.
Bristol band Football FC may only have a few records out, but one thing is certain, this band packs a punch! After releasing the impressive post-punk / coldwave track 'No Lover Like A Luger', the group now return with their thunderous single 'Big Time'. Striking like a heavyweight boxer's uppercut to the chin, the tune finds Football FC yet again executing a perfect mesh of hard-edged post-punk and new wave, with the lyrical content painting a window into the mind of a capitalist. A deep, reverberating bass line is the pipeline of the instrumentation whilst sinister guitar lines lash throughout. Another stellar offering, we can't wait to hear more from the promising outfit.
Over at ColoRising, we love the sounds of post-punk and new wave. We especially love when a band gets these styles spot-on. Squid's latest single 'The Cleaner' is a perfect blend of post-punk, punk funk and new wave that is joyous nod at late 70s - early 80s sounds by acts such as Talking Heads and Delta 5.
Brighton band Youth Sector step forth with a modern twist of late 70s, early 80s new wave, post-punk and punk funk with their latest track 'Renting Spaces In My World'. Drawing inspiration from bands such as Talking Heads, the group explode with sweeping synth lines and spiky guitar riffs, while the lyrics invite the listener into the mind of a disillusioned person. Already having ties to the theatrical piece Ubu which ran at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London band Famous make a wave of a splash with their new mini-album 'England'. A roller coaster ride of post-punk, new wave and art-pop, krautrock and more, the six-track record is theatre in itself with vocalist Jack Merrett delivering bold performances reminiscent of the likes of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and even elements of Mark E. Smith of The Fall. You can also hear influences of David Bowie swirling around 'England'.
