Italian DJ and producer revisits the sound of the underground circa 1980s and 90s New York City and Chicago with her forthcoming album 'Aubergine'. With a total of eleven tracks, Lazzarini experiments with funky breaks and deep club, both prevalent in the two American cities, yet still ventures out into the territories of melodic downtempo and even Italo disco. Tracks like 'MK' are reminiscent of past Manhattan night clubs as housers performed their finest moves. Flavia Lazzarini adds a bit of her Italian heritage with spaced-out tunes like 'No title'. 'Aubergine' truly shines with it's unpredictability. Unafraid to present a contrast of husky 4x4 rhythms at times whilst a gentleness of soft synth-based grooves play out at other moments, Flavia Lazzarini proves that sometimes a stirring of styles can make for an attention-holding LP that doesn't run a rough road course off the deep end.
A month ago Italian brand Valentino enlisted Vanessa Beecroft to present their latest collection at the New York Academy of Art. With the models all similarly dressed in tan trench coats, they all stand or sit in similar formation like a group of soldiers. Similarities can be drawn between this showcase and Kanye West's 'Yeezy Season' show in terms of aesthetics. Considering that Vanessa Beecroft also had her hand with West's presentation as well, it totally makes sense. You can watch the fashion video below.
Italian producer SofaTalk is gearing up for the release of his new EP 'Fairy Dust', out April 11th via Roots Underground Records. The four song record is a smooth and silky weaving of future jazz, house and broken beat. Cosmic in every sense of the word, guests include Kris Tidjan, who provide soulful vocals on the title track. The release harks back to the glorious period of the mid-2000s where acts like 4Hero and Jazzanova were defining a forward-thinking style of music. SofaTalk is brilliantly continuing the legacy. You can preview the 'Fairy Dust' EP below.
Whilst we're not sure of the history regarding Italian singer Emanuela Drei aka Giungla, we do know that her new song 'Sand' is definitely up our alley. Spacious and minimal in all the best way possible, the cut is like a soundtrack of an experience of cloud 9 floating. Musically contrasting to her more electro-filled tune 'Cold', the track is taken from her forthcoming EP 'Camo' out May 20th via Factory Flaws. Stream 'Sand' down at the bottom.
