Art and music are one in the same for Oslo's Jenny Hval. Having released avant garde solo records now for a decade, she continues to erase any lines of genre, allowing for a bigger and more spacious palette to freely create without boundaries or restrictions. On September 30th, Hval will drop her sixth LP 'BLOOD BITCH' on the Sacred Bones imprint. Delivering the first single taken from the album entitled 'Female Vampire', she now gives a taste of the second offering called 'Conceptual Romance'. Dreamy in sound yet still unorthodox in production, the warming aesthetic is graced with high, floating vocals.
Jenny Hval has always been one to walk her own beat creatively. With a new album on the way entitled 'Blood Bitch', the Norwegian artist taps into a sort of 70s horror aesthetic with her latest video 'Female Vampire'. What appears to be a sort of ritual in which Hval and a group of women put their faces together whilst covered in sticky film, the vid was shot entirely on an iPhone.

London's Mickey Lightfoot has always brought a sense of performance art to visually accompany his avant-garde style of music. Refusing to be locked down by boundaries, his sound has remained free of specific titles. For his new video 'Anxious (Modern Blues)', Mickey Lightfoot yet again delivers a theatrical show, comparing the feeling of anxiety to pulling the weight of a truck. An added pressure is brought on by a threatening warrior who, at one point in a clip, orders him to dance. The visually stunning video is directed by Shaun James Grant.
Singer, musician and composer Sofia Härdig is considered to be one of the leading acts coming out of Sweden with a sound organic and raw, explosively bursting out of the seams with energy. No stranger to the music industry, Härdig has worked with the likes of Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Julia Crafitz of Pussy Galore, not to mention Grammy Award winning group The Hellacopters and more. In a sense the Swedish artist reflects the very idea of what a true rock star looks, feels and sounds like. Whilst her native country has maintained a tradition of pumping out pop acts, Härdig's music is experimental, racing, unafraid and unapologetic. Her visuals are performance art, something that was a staple in New York's East Village punk and new wave scene or West Berlin in the 70s and 80s.

Dutch duo The Motto may be a name new to listeners, however, the Amsterdam-based group have cut their teeth in the industry working with the likes of Ghostface Killah, Busta Rhymes and more. Consisting of Jalise Romy and Joveek Murphy, the two have stepped into the limelight to bring forth their debut song entitled 'Gunfighter'. With a mantra of experimenting with music to create their own unique sound, the pop/electronic soul hybrid is a pretty monumental introduction to the pair who are ready to blast off in 2016. While everyone is busy putting together a 'Best of 2015' list, we're excited about the albums that are forthcoming in 2016. One LP that we have been eagerly waiting on is 'MartyrLoserKing' by artist, poet and author Saul Williams. New York-based Williams recently shared a new song taken from the album entitled 'The Noise Came From Here'. Sampling the singing of an African tribe, heavy synths and thundering drums push from beneath creating a sense of urgency. Like the work of Williams' past, 'The Noise Came From Here' challenges any normality pertaining to the current music, keeping a strategic focus on something with a little more impact. 'MartyrLoserKing' is out January 29, 2016 via the Fader label. Check it out.
