New York City band The Ropes have been creating a slew music for years now, however, the duo may have gained a heap of attention after Tricky sampled their song “Love Is a Chain Store”, released in 2010, for his cut “Does It”.

The Ropes are back with their new EP entitled Sadness Is the Rich Man’s Drug. Perfectly combining indie, post-punk and minimal wave in one sitting, the three track work is the follow up to their I Want It All, So I Can Have Nothing EP, released earlier this year. Keeping their sound somewhat dark, polished production strapped with appropriate guitar placement and moody synths coincide with Sharon Shy’s haunting yet sensual vocals, making Sadness Is the Rich Man’s Drug their finest work yet.

The Ropes last LP Post-Entertainment was released in 2013.
