Working with the band The Brotherhood of Our Lady, Norwegian artist Susanna is gearing up for the release of her new album Garden of Earthly Delights, out Feb 22nd on SusannaSonata. Inspired by the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch, the new work explores sociology, spirituality and more.
One of the songs taken from the upcoming LP is the haunting and minimal piece ‘Ecstasy X’. Using ghostly vocals to top off the sounds of church bells taken from a cassette and an eerie accordion, Susanna has shared a stream of the track which you can listen to below.
Touching on the new album, Susanna stated:
“This album is about exclusion in various senses, wandering and seeking something else within or outside yourself, the beauty of life, over-consumption, capitalism tied together with religious mythical and occult images and symbols.”
With regards to the inspiration of painter Hieronymus Bosch, Susanna added:
“While this is not a soundtrack to his paintings, I feel a resemblance between the absurdity in his pictures and today’s existence. Humanity has never been more enlightened and competent to make sustainable solutions for everyone, but we still close our eyes to poverty, environmental issues and lack of equality.”
