On May 11, Red Bull Music Academy along with François K, Joey Llano, David DePino and Jocelyn Brown paid tribute to the legendary New York DJ and producer Larry Levan. The block party was a part of an effort to try to rename King Street Larry Levan Way. The event was held in front of the old building that was once the location of the Paradise Garage.

Larry Levan, born Lawrence Philpot, played at the infamous Paradise Garage located at 84 King Street from 1976 to 1987. He helped to define and set the standards of what modern clubbing would become. Levan who began his career alongside with pioneer Frankie Knuckles in New York City, bridged a demographic of music lovers ranging of various ethnicity and sexual preferences. Larry Levan sadly passed away on November 8, 1992 due to heart failure stemming from endocarditis.
