Pablo Nouvelle has occupied an interesting space in music. Whilst establishing himself as a prominent producer who can knock out atmospheric electronic soul, he has also crafted moving deep house records that have been equally as good. Having been critically praised for his debut self-titled release back in 2013, followed by his 2016 album All I Need, for his latest LP Wired, Nouvelle has bridged the best of both worlds resulting in a moody and illustrious piece of work.
Comprised of 12 songs with guest features including Andreya Triana, Lulu James and Favela, each track musically compliments one another, almost making the album feel like a story in itself. Perhaps this can be attributed to Nouvelle’s meticulous ear for arrangement. While there are plenty of moments where his love for soul and even pop music is exhibited with songs like ‘Every Time You Go’ and ‘Careless’, it’s songs like the title track ‘Wired’ where he shines incorporating a spacey tech layering, fostering quite an otherworldly feel. His golden touch for making house music also burst with radiance with ‘Nostalgic Love’ boasting soulful vocals atop an intensely deep and rich 4×4 backing. ‘Harder Now’ is the working into more of the pop spectrum, yet still manages to maintain Nouvelle’s signature touch, giving it a proper placing. Clearly there is a mood capturing consistency that runs throughout the LP yet Pablo Nouvelle gives each track enough individuality to keep the tone from resulting in monotony.
Overall, Wired is a lush and crafty offering with Pablo Nouvelle flexing his production muscle and ability to pull the emotional strings of the listener. It also demonstrates his skill as well-rounded artist who wants to keep pushing past his previous work, which speaks in volumes with this latest LP.
