Swedish trio Spunsugar are scheduled to release their new album A Hole Forever on November 17th via Adrian Recordings. Having previously shared the two singles ‘Skin Unwell’ and ‘It Never Gave Me Anything’, they now return with their latest track ‘San Jose’.
‘San Jose’ is a dreamy blend of goth, grunge and post punk, built on whipping guitar riffs, a pronounced bass line and really lush vocal work that is mesmeric. It wouldn’t be a far stretch to see ‘San Jose’ getting film placement. This is such a fantastic track that will surely be on repeat for a while.
Spunsugar have also shared a DIY style music video to coincide with the song, which you can watch down at the bottom.
Touching on the track, Spunsugar mentioned:
“This song is an homage (and sort of a response) to the Dione Warwick song “Do you know the way to San José” (1968). This is a song about dreams, mainly, broken ones. About pumping gas for the people who achieved theirs. Fittingly, this song has a beachy indie vibe paired with a grungey sound. It lulls you in with a crisp coolness, and then hits you with a distorted riff that chugs away under breathy shoegaze vocals.”
