While people constantly throw around the phrase ‘do it for the culture’, North Carolina lyrical giant Rapsody is one who that statement can surely pertain to. For her latest video ‘Ibtihaj’, she connects with the one and only GZA, as well as the king of modern soul himself, D’Angelo. Filmed in Harlem, Rapsody is surrounded by beautiful women in hijabs, while Roxanne Shante and Mary J Blige make special guest appearances throughout the video. GZA is also featured in the vid, of course lyrically sounding sharper than ever. It should also be noted that the two are flowing over the Willie Mitchell ‘Groovin” sample, which was also flipped on the instrumental for GZA’s classic track ‘Liquid Swords’. The song is taken from Rapsody’s forthcoming LP Eve, out this month.
