South London has been bubbling with young artists delving into the sounds of jazz and soul with a Hip-Hop sensibility. Oscar Jerome is among those that have been delivering impressive recordings for the past year and a half. Dropping his self-titled EP back in 2016, Jerome’s latest single ‘Smile on a Screen’ featuring James Massiah is a silky selection bursting with radiance. The track is reminiscent of the golden period of acid jazz, early 90s Hip-Hop and the 70s jazz fusion era all rolled up into one well presented package that is fitting for the now. ‘Smile on a Screen’ is taken from Jerome’s forthcoming EP Where Are Your Branches?, out January 26th.
Touching on ‘Smile on a Screen’, Oscar Jerome mentioned:
“This tune has grown through being played live. It took a while to find its identity when recorded but with a mash-up of mine, Maxwell Owin and Wu-Lu’s production skills it finally found a life of its own.”
