Toronto’s Matthew Progress has been experimenting with various styles of sound for years now, refusing to be boxed into any particular genre. As an emcee, he can sever and slice with the best of them. Proving to be sharper than ever, Matthew Progress has released his new single ‘Gen Pop’.
Falling somewhere between Hip-Hop, experimental electronica, and post-punk, ‘Gen Pop’ finds Matthew Progress continuing to deliver social commentary, whilst dropping lines like “beheaded my repression/reinvented adolescence/then I went and read it second”. Wasting no bars, with each packing punch after punch, ‘Gen Pop’ marks an incredible comeback for the Canadian artist since releasing his ‘PARABLE3’ tune back in 2021.
Touching on the track, Matthew Progress stated:
“I initially began writing lyrics that described coping mechanisms for existential dread. As I kept writing, the song evolved into a reflection on generational cycles, and the way humans – especially young people – respond to the challenges of their era.”
