Oxford band Low Island have released their new EP Shut Out The Sun. With the title drawing inspiration from Michael Zielenziger’s 2006 book Shutting Out the Sun, the record is comprised of four tracks with the group fusing new wave, electronica, indie pop and more. Low Island deliver critiques on daily living and the manic ups and downs that come along with it.
Touching on the EP title, Low Island mentioned:
“The Hikikomori represent one extreme response to modern anxiety. Another is escapism, and for us, Shut Out the Sun is evocative of both; alone in your bedroom or immersed in the club, both private and communal. It’s a duality that we’re often trying to convey in our music by setting these subjects against instrumentals that draw strongly upon dance music.”
The EP release has also coincided with Low Island’s tour, which kicked off on October 31st in Leeds. You can check the schedule below for venues and dates.
