After giving a glimpse of their song ‘Turn Up The Volumes’ earlier this month, Montreal-based duo Thus Owl now share the title track to their forthcoming EP Black Matter. Dark and rowling, the track screams out with haunting guitar riffs, with the band adding a bit of noise in the mix which hits you like a punch to the jaw.
Explaining the idea behind ‘Black Matter’, in a press statement Thus Owls wrote:
“This song started out when Stef (Schneider) sent us a drum riff. We chopped it up, looped it in different ways and wrote the song on top of it. Sometimes it’s so nice to get a head start in the creating process with a seed given from someone else. We had a longing to write a song with an odd but smooth melody over something sparse and harsh sounding underneath. The lyrics touch on the dynamics and waves you go through in relationships – where you’re sometimes in perfect sync, but sometimes one is at the top while the other one is at the bottom of the wave. This song is blue, like dusk just before the real dark.’
Black Matter is out November 6th on Secret City Records.
