Amsterdam singer Joya Mooi has been on the scene for a number of years since releasing her 2010 album ‘Hard Melk.
Recently unveiling the tracks ‘Rice In Foil’ and ‘I Can Do Better’, she now returns with her latest single ‘Old Suit’. Soulful and melodic with a trap bounce in the drums, Joya Mooi executes jazz-style vocals, roping this gorgeous offering together in one lush packaging. ‘Old Suit’ is taken from her upcoming LP ‘The Ease Of Others’, out September 13th.
In regards to ‘Old Suit’, Joya Mooi said:
“This song is inspired by the short story The Suit (1963) by South African writer Can Themba. In which a man discovers that his wife is cheating on him. After he discovers her infidelity he makes her tread the suit – the man left behind- as if it was a person visiting their home. Needles to say to story doesn’t end well for them both. With this concept in mind I wanted to write about how power dynamics, revenge and self-destructiveness can manifest in a bad relationship.”
