Over the past number of years London singer Gus Harvey has dropped some really potent songs. Weaving between soul, jazz, pop and more, her charisma has always been undeniable. She now returns with her latest track ‘Albion’. The smokey production is fused with elements of trip-hop and and hazy jazz, with the overall theme of the tune being inspired from the Albion pub in East London, a place that was regularly visited by the Kray Twins. The single is taken from Gus Harvey’s forthcoming EP England.

Regarding ‘Albion’, Gus Harvey said:

“We collected the reverb and echoes of abandoned UK buildings, the old Kray twin pub in Hackney and a disused church, and I was taking photographs of everything I saw. Living in the pub had a huge impact. It felt like something weird was happening to time inside the walls – I was very curious and nostalgic for the old England that I could see and smell, also aware of being in this one last moment of suspension before little pockets of history just disappeared.

The buildings had been their communities’ hubs for hundreds of years and were filled with soul. I had to record everything about it that was possible to record – the sounds and the sight: sadly not possible to capture the magic old pub smell!”
