Texas staples Khruangbin and Malian singer/musician Vieux Farka Touré will release a collaborative album titled Ali, a celebration of the work and life of iconic artist Ali Farka Touré. Vieux is the son of Ali Farka Touré which makes the record extremely personal. The LP will land September 23rd via the Dead Oceans imprint.
Khruangbin and Vieux Farka Touré have also shared their new single called ‘Savanne’. The combination is magical as the musicians manages to incorporate traditional Malian styles with influences of psych, and even dub.
Ali Farka Touré passed away in 2006 but his extensive body of work harks back to 1976 with his self-titled debut major release. Fusing American blues with Malian folk which fostered a distinct style of his own, Touré became an international success, receiving critical acclaim throughout his career. His final solo studio album ‘Savane’ was released in 2006.
