Liverpool’s freshest club Underground has had an inspiring start, adding a fresh musical assault on the city’s clubbing terrain. Ben Klock got the momentum going, with further underground techno turns from Ame, Magda, Paws and SEFF, but as December swings by it’s the time for a new musical shift with the return of two favourites of the city’s scene. That pairing is party starters du jour Freeze and one of Merseyside’s strongest musical voices, Greg Wilson.
Freeze round off 2016 after another storming year, curating their own stage at Liverpool Sound City with Leftfield, Floating Points, Gerd Janson and more, as well as partying with Nina Kraviz and Todd Terje on standalone events. Their reputation for only doing events that work rather than committing to season long initiatives has ensured that despite being in this game for eleven years their approach is fresher than ever, with 2017 set to bring even more musical rewards.
Their partnership has truly blossomed with one of the godfathers of the UK disco scene, Greg Wilson. So much more than a music selector, Wilson’s erudite opinions and work as a historian has ensured knowledge behind the roots of dance music has spread far and wide, his time as a Hacienda resident pre-dating the acid house explosion. That said he truly brings the party, house, disco, funk, hip hop and pop presented in his own innate style.
