Gabriele Poso “Roots of Soul”

Italian composer and multi instumentalist Gabriele Poso is back with the beautiful new release “Roots of Soul” on the INFRACom! label. Combining African and Latin rhythms, Poso’s music is a reflection of the foundation that the various jazz masters have laid before hand. Upbeat and festive in many tracks, the Afro-Cuban sound practically grips and hugs you with warmth as strong as the island itself. However, tracks such as “Into My Heart” featuring the powerful vocals of Nailiah Porter is so moving that it can bring tears to one’s eyes. Other featured singers include Toronto talent Tanya Michelle and even Yoruba Soul’s Osunlade, who lends his vocal abilities on the song “You Don’t Love Me”.

“Roots of Soul” is just what the title suggest, a brilliant return to the essence of the sounds that has bred much of the music of our modern time. Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward and Gabriele Poso has managed to do both in one shot.
