With their new album Islands in the Sky landing on the 24th of this month, Los Angeles rockers Death Valley Girls have shared their new track ‘Magic Powers’.
The psych-driven tune which also incorporates bits of punk and glam, touches on the idea of things that one experiences, which can be perceived as negative, can actually be looked at as something positive and powerful. The sonics are euphoric, something that Death Valley Girls have created a reputation on, all the while musically pushing beyond that they have done in the past. ‘Magic Powers’ is out now via Suicide Squeeze Records.
Death Valley Girls have also shared a video to go along with the single. Directed by Samantha Westervelt, the imagery is that of an 80s video game with loads of mushrooms…magic ones perhaps.
Regarding the ‘Magic Powers’, front woman Bonnie Bloomgarden said:
“I was walking down the street, and all of the sudden it dawned on me that almost all the things that kids bullied me about, or I got in trouble for in school, or was told would make me never amount to anything, were actually my magic powers! My voice isn’t too high, or funny, it’s how I cast my spells! I’m not a bad student, I love learning, and being a seeker! And I’m not a crazy person with weird ideas, that will never fit into society, I’m a witch, and I have magic powers!
