It’s been almost a decade and a half since D’Angelo’s album Voodoo, and considering that it felt as if the Richmond native would never release any more material with the exception of a few guest appearances, in 2011 words surfaced in the media that D’Angelo was indeed finishing a new album. In 2012, he played a stream of sold-out shows in Europe which included a new song entitled “Sugah Daddy”.

D’Angelo now shares the official recording of “Sugah Daddy” which is taken from his forthcoming third LP Black Messiah. Giving the people what they have been craving, “Sugah Daddy” is a swinging soul cut that is equipped with a sharp horn section and oozes funk, jazz and gospel. The track picks right up from where Voodoo left off…and we’re surely happy about that!
