London trio Voka Gentle have surely experimented with sound over the years, yet their recent recordings have gone much darker, fostering incredible results that are not only edgy musically, but reminiscent of the times where acts would step outside the norms of genres. Case in point, their latest single ‘Horse Latitudes’, an utterly exciting blend of indie, electronica and psychedelic. The track is taken from their forthcoming LP WRITHING! , landing October 22nd on Leafy Outlook.
Voka Gentle have also shared a video to accompany the single. Directed by Sam Kinsella, you can expect something more on the line of performance art that you would have seen in underground Berlin spaces in the 60s. Good stuff!
Touching on the single, Voka Gentles mentioned:
“The Horse Latitudes are latitudes known for stranding sailors at sea without wind. Apparently they would sometimes be stuck there for so long that they’d have to throw their horses overboard to conserve drinking water. This song is sort of about being ‘stranded’ in a kind of identity crisis and having to reconcile with oneself and lose the baggage, before being able to look outwards and move forward. The chorus simply says ‘get unburdened!’ – which is the thrust of the track. There’s also a little bit of mourning for the horses that the narrator remembers raising from birth- maybe there’s also a ‘kill your darlings’ kind of message.”
