Celine creative director Hedi Slimane picks up from his previous Boy Doll runway show with another offering that he dubs Dysfunctional Bauhaus.
Slimane’s cultural and musical influences have always remained at the forefront of his career, often inspiring the designs. This runway show highlights a grand mixture of punk, grunge, and glam, presented in the packaging of fringe leather jackets, snake print overcoats, sequins tops, and even oversize fatigue hoodies. There are juxtapositions of playfulness and all out riotous within the collection, yet on a subcultural level they all make complete sense. There would be no wonder why Hedi Slimane’s choice of a track by NYC punk funk band Gustaf was the soundtrack of the show. It feels as if Slimane is circling back to his original love of rock & roll and the sub-genres underneath it, which yet again makes for something bold and quite exciting.
