Broken & Uneven’s Queen Jubilee Weekend, June 1-4 w/ Mala, Hudson Mohawke and more, London

The Queens’ Jubilee in June will be an extended Bank Holiday of no work and all play here at Broken & Uneven as we’ve decided to take full advantage of the 4-day weekend and aim to keep you thoroughly entertained and stimulated for the duration.

Kicking off on Friday 1st June we will be hosting the official Dimensions Festival Launch Party at a secret London venue that sees the crew behind Outlook Festival add another impressive string to their bow. This underground electronic music event takes places in Croatia’s idyllic Fort Punta Christo and showcasea the deeper spectrum of dance music with the cream of House, Techno, Bass, D&B and Electronica taking centre stage on what is becoming one of Europe’s most talked about partying destinations. For three days in September this scenic stretch of the Adriatic Coast will see the likes of Moodyman, Four Tet, Pearson Sound, Boddika, Benji B, Portico Quarter and many others grace the inaugural edition of the festival.

Hosting the main room on the night will be Eglo Records who have been on a roll as of late after recently celebrating their label’s third birthday and being responsible for one of 2011’s most discerning releases, the Shadows EP by label co-founder Floating Points. He will be spinning his trademark selection of rare Funk and Disco as well as off-kilter House that has seen him inspire crate diggers and vinyl lovers alike. Label-mate Alexander Nut, who’s Saturday afternoon slot on Rinse FM has become somewhat of a one-stop shop for the Eglo sound, is known for his unpredictable sets that range from Hip-Hop to House to Broken Beat and beyond whilst Funkineven’s futuristic take on House will be a journey through Acid and mercurial Funk. DMZ head honcho Mala will be making a special guest appearance alongside the Eglo camp on the night and based on past performances we can expect nothing but a barrage of unreleased dubs from one of Dubstep’s true originators. His well-renowned attention to low-end vibrations and frequencies will be warmly welcomed by our bespoke Sound Services soundsystem so get your earplugs at the ready.

Room Two see’s burgeoning warehouse promoters Beat Dimension put forward-thinking Bass/D&B shoulder to shoulder with no-holds barred House/Techno. Enlisting the talents of (recently resurrected R&S Offshoot) Apollo signing Synkro, Exit Records’ Indigo and the artist formerly known as Duffstep – Echer to represent. Leeds native Youandewan, who has released on Hypercolour and remixed for the likes of Midland, will also be on hand to lay down his warehouse friendly selection that focuses heavily on the percussive and bass heavy end of House and Bass Music.

Then on Saturday 2nd June Broken & Uneven will be hosting one of three officially endorsed Field Day After Party’s at XOYO. This will be a 50 Weapons special to celebrate the release of Phon.o’s new album, Black Boulder. Featuring Phon.o – Live, Dark Sky, Anstam – Live and A VERY SPECIAL SURPRISE GUEST DJ SET!!!
The Berlin-based label, which is home to Addison Groove, Doc Daneeka, Benjamin Damage and Cosmin TRG is run by none other than Modeselektor and continues their tradition of embracing all forms of electronic music. Known for their open-ended approach to their label A&R policy, it’s this unpredictability that keeps both artists and fans on their toes.

Phon.o’s upcoming album is a welcome addition to label’s discography as the producer dishes up an extended player that promises to be a defining mission statement. With nods to the darker side of Dub, Garage and Techno and after two jaw-dropping EP’s in 2011 it’s no surprise that an album has to come to light so swiftly. Support on the night comes from London’s own Dark Sky who have turned heads since the release of ‘Radius EP’ on the label which sonically flirted with everything from House, Techno and even UK Garage at times so expect no less from their DJ set.

Ever elusive Radiohead-fave Anstam will also be treating us to a live set which will be packed full of interpretations from his recent album Dispel Dances. Somewhat of a law unto himself, Anstam’s irregular beat patterns and melodies are not for the faint-hearted so be expect plenty of leftfield beats.

The Surprise Guest won’t be revealed until the night of the party but rest assured that they will be perfectly suited for fans of this label and night…

Rounding off things on Monday 4th June will be London’s premier Hip-Hop night Livin’ Proof, who have been setting London alight with their intimate jams that really take you back the roots of Hip-Hop culture. Over their four-year stint they’ve held parties featuring A Tribe Called Quest’ Ali Shaheed Mohammed and more recently A$AP Rocky which has allowed them to pay homage to the past but also help them shed light on a new wave of Hip-Hop acts.

This show will be no different as they invite Warp’s boy wonder, Hudson Mowhawke, whose music takes cues from seminal producers such as J-Dilla and Sa-Ra and fused it with the electronic sensibilities of Flying Lotus. His 2009 debut album Butter was a testament to this and he has since gone on to diversify his sound and if his recent Satin Panthers EP is anything to go by, he’s not looking to slow down anytime soon. With forthcoming music in the pipeline with fellow hotly-tipped beatsmith Lunice as TNGHT, there’s no better time to have the Glaswegian play as he’ll be dusting off some classic Hip-Hop gems from his collection and giving us a lesson in true school turntablism.
As per usual the Livin’ Proof residents Rags, Khalil, Snips and Budgie will be setting the pace on the night so expect to hear anything from Rick Ross to Gangstarr to Jay-Z as they blend the best of Hip-Hop both past and present. Taking place at a venue in East London TBA, we feel this to be a fitting end to our extended weekend of antics and we’re sure The Queen herself would approve of our celebrations in her honour!
