Lets be honest, house records are released so rapidly on a daily basis that if they were like alcohol shots, we would all be inebriated out of our minds without any recollection of what was just heard in a matter of minutes, let alone days. However, when a good house record emerges though all of the noise, it is usually one of redeeming value that will last longer than a shelf life of a month in the raves. This points to London duo Jackson Almond and Jim Rider aka Boean who have done something well – simply produce a single that doesn’t wholeheartedly get taken over by its influences, yet rather uses bits of inspiration to form pieces of a complete picture resulting in a clean, solid and strong recording. Boean’s forthcoming single “What You Do” is a middle ground of soulful/deep house, UK garage and a hint of bass, without exclusively being pigeon-holed to any three. Using lush piano riffs, chopped vocal samples, garage drum patterns and a splash of twisted bass to pepper the track, the record is effective for the dance floor without being overly abrasive or unsatisfying and dull. The single includes remixes by Seff and Howson’s Groove. Boean hits the bulls-eye with a joyously uplifting and ethereal release.
Boean’s “What You Do” is out July 7 on Bambusa Records.
