Arctic Monkeys have been one of the most interesting bands spanning the last 20 years. The Sheffield-originating outfit were considered the heroes of the post-punk revival, garage rock, indie scenes in the early 2000s. Their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not stormed the charts and went multi-platinum. With each LP release thereafter, the group slowly began experimenting with sounds, dabbing into more harder rock to psychedelic pop. By the time Arctic Monkeys dropped their sixth album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino in 2018, they surprised the world by basically releasing a lounge music meets space pop record. Mind you, there had been a five year gap since their 2013 album AM.
Fast forward to August 2022 and Arctic Monkeys recently returned with an announcement that their seventh studio album titled The Car would land October 21st of this year. Today, the band now unveils a new single and video called ‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball’. Musically the song picks up from where Arctic Monkeys left off, delving into more of a cinematic lounge meets easy pop feel. For those who have followed front man Alex Turner’s career, it should really be no surprise of this direction leaning considering his work as a member of The Last Shadow Puppets with Miles Kane. The video itself feature clips of the band in the recording studio.
The Car will get released via Domino Records.
