Bloc Party’s Louise Bartle steps out with a new side project under the moniker of NOVACUB. The drummer, singer, and producer will release her debut solo album Just Not Me on October 6th. Having already unveiled three singles previously, Bartle now shares her fourth offering titled ‘SHOULD WE BE OVER’.
A bouncy electronic pop cut that touches on finally coming to terms about stepping away from a horrid relationship, the production is punchy with contributing guitar work from Bloc Party’s own Russell Lissack. Already garnishing support by BBC Radio 6 Music, ‘SHOULD WE BE OVER’ is an infectious release from NOVACUB that is full of bite.
Touching on the track, NOVACUB stated:
“This relationship went on for too long and it began to feel toxic. I didn’t know how to end it because I felt deeply for them. We couldn’t communicate healthily, and I started to feel trapped. This song became my escape, where I could express my feelings of resentment and anger. I asked Russell to play the fast bit of the guitar solo because I couldn’t do it (and he’s an exceptional guitar player who did it in like 5 seconds!)’.”
