With Desperate Journalist releasing their upcoming album No Hero on September 27th, the London band have unveiled their third and final single before the drop titled ‘You Say You’re Lonely’. The track follows their previous song ‘Afraid’.

Beautifully arranged, the track is a great demonstration of the band’s ability to foster a mid-tempo song that drives a little more down an indie pop lane without compromising their initial core sound. There is a sense of restraint throughout the tune which is surely not a bad thing. In fact, the controlled musicality allows singer Jo Bevan to shine with poise and grace, creating an overall well-balanced single.

Regarding the single, Jo Bevan mentioned:

“The song is kind of me talking to an imagined younger self, and I wanted it to be equal parts comforting and bleak. The lyrics are purposefully a bit obscure and abstract as I wanted them to be more poetic than specific. Musically this is one of the most atmospheric tracks we have yet recorded I think and I’m really proud of how the sparseness and tension in the verse contrasts with the catchy-pop chorus, whilst the song remains cohesive as a whole.”
