Italian DJ and producer revisits the sound of the underground circa 1980s and 90s New York City and Chicago with her forthcoming album Aubergine. With a total of eleven tracks, Lazzarini experiments with funky breaks and deep club, both prevalent in the two American cities, yet still ventures out into the territories of melodic downtempo and even Italo disco. Tracks like ‘MK’ are reminiscent of past Manhattan night clubs as housers performed their finest moves. Flavia Lazzarini adds a bit of her Italian heritage with spaced-out tunes like ‘No title’. Aubergine truly shines with it’s unpredictability. Unafraid to present a contrast of husky 4×4 rhythms at times whilst a gentleness of soft synth-based grooves play out at other moments, Flavia Lazzarini proves that sometimes a stirring of styles can make for an attention-holding LP that doesn’t run a rough road course off the deep end.
Aubergine is scheduled to be released June 13th via Zig Zag Records.
