Yasiin Bey FKA Mos Def has been visually present for the past few years, yet there has been a thick air of mystery as to what the rapper and actor has truly been up to. While he was spotted in London and Paris alongside the Art Comes First collective many months back and has been performing shows in various countries, there really hasn’t been tons of music surfacing. The Omfgod collaboration project with producer Mannie Fresh never officially manifested into product and many fans that have been practically begging for another Black Star album with Talib Kweli, after a few tracks emerged from the two BK emcees, are still waiting on bended knees. Only recently had the news emerged that Yasiin has been living in Cape Town for over a year. Dazed & Confused Magazine recently caught up with Bey who has actually been in the studio with South African artist Petite Noir. In the interview Yasiin talk about the similarities between South African acts and American Hip-Hop artists getting more recognition outside of their respective country, hearing the music of Petite Noir for the first time, as well as the diversity of sound of SA.
