After a brief summer hiatus one of the UK’s premier club nights, BassLaced, returns to London with four jaw-dropping events to end 2012 with a much needed injection of fun-fuelled raves. A bastion for all things bass-centric – whether it be Dubstep, Garage, House, Reggae, Grime or D&B the night prides itself on booking the most prominent figureheads from these aforementioned genres. This autumn is no different with All Trap Music, Girls Music, Church, Get Darker and D&B Arena, Digital Soundboy all playing a big part in BassLaced resurgence to the forefront of London’s clubbing scene.
Things kick off on Friday 23rd November at Stoke Newington’s intimate party abode, The Nest and is hosted by Youtube channel, All Trap Music. The page is dedicated to the sound or movement that has been loosely labeled as ‘Trap’ and the style has sparked debates into whether it’s a new genre or simply an extension of Hip-Hop. Leading the line-up is Flosstradamus who have been heavily associated with the Trap sound after releases on Diplo’s Mad Decent label and A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold imprint. Alongside the likes of Baauer they have been heralded as the styles most promising talents as the Chicago-based production duo have been turning heads with their neon-coloured beats that combine the attitude of Hip-Hop with the charisma of electronic music. They’re joined by fellow Mad Decent affiliate Kito, who will be delving into her latest experiments with the sound whilst Jack Swift, Jikay and DJ Take will also be delivering some highly energetic beats.
The following week on Friday 30th November sees Radio 1’s Toddla T host a showcase from his label, Girls Music, at a secret warehouse location. Toddla T’s label has released party-themed cuts from Roska, Lady Chann and DJ Q and is yet another platform for him to manifest his passion for music and nurture new and exciting talents. Joining him on the night will be Southern Fried Records house extraordinaire’s The 2 Bears (comprised of Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Raf Rundell) hot off the back of their 2 Bears 1 Love compilation whilst the resurgent and multi-faceted legend Ashley Beedle will be on hand to preview some forthcoming material from his Modern Artifacts and Out Hear Audio labels and his forthcoming Run The Track on Girls Music. Another one of Sheffield’s contributions to 90’s electronic music will be making an appearance when Toddla T’s hometown heroes Forgemasters play a live set. Label-regular Roses Gabor will be on PA duties with some assistance from her DJ Martelo and recent Girls Music signee Walter Ego is set to deliver an enthralling bass-focused set.
Girls Music is joined by rising promotion outfit Church, who have been setting Elephant & Castle’s beloved Corsica Studios alight with their trailblazing parties that focus on genres below the 130 BPM mark. They’ve enlisted the services of techno-stalwart Paul Woolford, who has been keen to dabble in more bass-led material as direct effect of his appreciation of the UK’s hybrid exploits of recent years. He will be joined by Hypercolour’s house and garage maestro Huxley, the prolific XXXY and one of techno’s rising stars – Landol Kal. Not forgetting Church co-founder Seb Wildblood and resident Apes who are well-versed in setting the vibe for the loyal Church following.
Dubstep, D&B and everything in between will collide on Friday 7th December at another secret warehouse space when Get Darker teams up with Drum & Bass Arena. What will act as an early Christmas party for revelers sees original dubstep icons Loefah and Oneman embark on a rare back-to-back set whilst one third of Magnetic Man and production mentor to Skream and Benga, Artwork will take the crowd on a bass odyssey. US Garage legend Todd Edwards makes a welcome return to London for one of his sample-laden 4×4 garage sets and will be joined by a fellow Garage pioneer, Kiss 100’s DJ EZ. Get Darker favourite and Rinse FM DJ, Youngsta will be trawling through the archives for a classic Tempa set, documenting the roots of early Dubstep whilst Darkside and Tunnidge will be pulling out many a special dubplate for their back to back set.
Online portal Drum & Bass Arena will be inviting some of the scenes favourites, both past and present, to join them on a bass odyssey on the night. They welcome founding father Roni Size to lay down a selection of seminal liquid D&B treats alongside Soul:r mainstay Calibre and former Autonomic member and Exit Records boss D:Bridge. Jungle pioneer Randall will be on hand for a trip down memory lane with an old school Jungle set alongside V Records pair, Artificial Intelligence. Coaching you through the night on the mic will be Shogun Audio golden boy SP:MC, host of choice AD, Manchester’s finest DRS and the ever present 2Shy.
Digital Soundboy will be hosting a very special midweek party on Thursday 20th December with the label’s founder and D&B icon, Shy FX headlining the night. The label has released timeless material from the likes Skream, Redlight and Rockwell and has embraced all forms of UK Dance music in recent years outside of the D&B scene such as Dubstep, Bass and Grime. He’ll be joined on the night by the labels most in-demand acts with Dubstep golden boy Breakage, Radio 1 host and B.Traits, one of the labels most promising talents, Dismantle and hosting duties come courtesy of GQ, Dynamite, Youngman and ID.
The re-launch of BassLaced promises to end the year with a plethora of quality and exciting acts that are just a pre-cursor to what the events brand has planned for 2013. With the depth and breadth of talent that make up each line-up, there’s more than enough reasons to welcome back the UK’s leading bass-led club night with open arms.
