Wye Oak have announced news regarding their upcoming EP No Horizon. Out July 31st on the Merge imprint, the five song extended play was recorded with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. The experimentalism and expansion of their sound seems to be an appropriate move as Wye Oak made the transformation from a pair to a five-piece band.
Wye Oak have also shared their new single ‘AEIOU’, which is featured on No Horizon. A beautiful and soul lifting sliding of art pop, the gorgeous vocals of singer Jenn Wasner coupled with the incredible harmonies of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus is simply magical. The band have provided an animated lyric video to accompany the song, which you can check out below.
Regarding the single, Jenn Wasner said:
“This song is about the inadequacy of language. It was written around the time that those currently in power took it upon themselves to think that they could minimize the existence of certain people by removing the words that we currently use to define them—like transgender—from use. Language is bigger than the powers that try to control it, but we are so much bigger than language. We are so much more than anything that can be suggested with words.”
