Top Pick: Femme En Fourrure “The Beach” EP

fem2

We were already fans of the Helsinki-based duo Femme En Fourrure back in 2010, when they were releasing records such as the sexually fueled deep house song “Banana”. Now in 2014, the group is back with their new EP “The Beach”.

While bits of erotic undertones still remain, Femme En Fourrure have musically gone darker and experimental, creating an even more expanding palette of sonic sexcapading. After all this is the band whose statement reads “Music made for DJs and catwalks; also: for nightly promenades and oceanside sexin’”. The title cut and lead single “The Beach” emits a nocturnal feel with its run on 4×4 drum kick off set by sharp claps and bending synth chords, creating what could be considered the “mood setter”. “Palms Glide Up My Thighs” are reminiscent to FEF’s earlier naughty house work, yet delves deeper into darkness with murky filtering, providing a theme of the “initiation”. “Apple Of My Eye” closes the deal with steamy, loose swinging, unorthodox programming, and wet key stabs, now acting as the soundtrack to all out bed romping. The EP also features a remix of “The Beach” by Estonia native, now New York based Maria Minerva.

Femme En Fourrure’s new work represents the duo at their best, finely constructing a true sound that they can now call their own. If this is a delicious treat acting as a precursor to what’s in store for 2014, then our mouths are lustfully salivating.

Femme En Fourrure’s “The Beach” EP is out digitally, and was also released as a limited edition cassette pack which featured a pink cassette, sticker, booklet, and a download code. Unfortunately the cassette pack has already sold out.
